Star Wars Battlefront 2. DICE's cringy reply for "40-hour grind or microtransactions"

According to the people already playing Star Wars Battlefront 2, the game needs 40-hour grind in order to unlock one hero without spending real money. The developer's reply only makes the whole situation worse.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is already available in EA Access, which let the subscribers play the game a couple of days before the official release (planned for November 17th). After many controversies with lootboxes, there is another sad news - it takes 40 hours to unlock just one playable character!

Star Wars Battlefront 2 - 40 hours to unlock one character

The situation outraged the players, because after paying a full retail price, there is many more cash to spend for microtransactions... unless you have dozens of hours to grind. DICE took some time before replying, but they did... and they treated us like idiots:

Apologies for not being more active these past weeks leading up to launch - as you know things get really hectic and you tend to spend whatever spare freetime you have recovering. I really regret not being here on the subreddit at the start of the early access. Hopefully some of these replies will bring some clarity and hope.

  • Performance during games will affect the amount of credits you get at the end of a match.

  • Matchmaking will take into account not only player skill, but also total gametime and rarity of star cards. [...]

  • Heroes that are locked at launch will only be unlocked with credits, not crystals. [...] The goal is to keep you playing for a long time and have something cool to look forward to as you earn credits.

  • Speaking of earning credits, we're constantly evaluating and tweaking the earn rates versus the cost of crates and heroes. [...]

In summary, we won't buy mentioned characters directly with crystals (microtransactions currency), but for credits we get after online matches. How to obtain more credits? They can be looted from lootboxes! So we cannot spent real money directly for characters or credits, but we can spend it for a chance to get some of the latter.

But don't worry - it's all good. At least we have something cool to look forward too!
