Middle-Earth: Shadow of War - PS4 Pro vs PS4 vs Xbox One

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War is heavily advertise with Xbox One X logo, but it does not mean the developer did not bother with PS4 and PS4 Pro. Quite the opposite - the PS4 Pro version is the best for now.

Digital Foundry tested Middle-Earth: Shadow of War to see for themselves how much work Monolith put into the PS4 Pro update for their game. In Shadow of Mordor we had two options - better graphics or resolution. Now the choice stayed the same.

In the game's options we can choose if we want higher resolution at the expense of graphics or the other way around. For the first option we'll get at least 1512p (usually it's 1620p) and from there it goes up to 4K via checkerboard rendering.

The latter option gives us mentioned 1512p-1620p, but with a better draw distance, geometry and shadows. Digital Foundry recommends using this setting, for the resolution loss is minimum.

What about PlayStation 4? Of course the graphics is a little bit worse, but the game runs in 1080p and 30 FPS (just like on PS4 Pro). The standard Sony's console's version is still better than Xbox One, which offers only 972p resolution with shadows of much lower quality and a shorter draw distance.
